The 2010 IIHF Div. IIA Championships took place in from April 11 to April 17 in Mexico City, Mexico. Spain won the group with a perfect 5-0-0 record and will play in Div. IA next year. Here is the list of teams and what they wore.

1. Spain WR: 30; 5-0-0-0. Black and White. Kind of reminds me of McDonald’s only with some black.

2. Australia WR: 34; 4-0-0-1. White. Only wore whites as far as I can tell

3. Belgium WR: 36; 3-0-0-2. Black. Another team with only one color sweater.

4. Bulgaria WR: 31; 2-0-0-3. White and Red. Picture of the red is not the best, but it appears to be the same style as the white.

5. Mexico WR: 32; 1-0-0-4. White and Green.

6. Turkey WR: 35; 0-0-0-5. White and Red.

The 2010 IIHF Division IIIA Championships took place in Luxembourg on April 14-17. Ireland was a perfect 3-0 and will move up to play in division II next year. Here are a look at what the teams wore.

Ireland WR: 42 – 1st Place. I could only find the team wearing white. The addition of green pants is better than the black they use to wear.

Greece WR: 46 – 2nd Place. Blue and White

Luxembourg WR: 44 – 3rd Place. Blue and White. I have no clue about the flames.

United Arab Emirates WR: NR – 4th Place. I could only find pictures of them wearing red. But I know they wear white based on the pictures from the 2010 Challenge cup of Asia.

The IIHF Challenge Cup of Asia took place from March 29 until April 4 in Taipei City, Taipei. 9 teams from Asia and the Middle East comprised the field with the home team Taipei taking home the title. Below are pictures of the sweaters worn by each team in the tournament. Check out the IIHF site for more game info and pictures.

Chinese Taipei WR : NR – 1st Place – White and Red. Montreal Canadiens style. I like it.

Hong Kong WR: NR – 5th Place – White and Red

Kuwait WR: NR – 7th Place – Blue and Red. No idea how blue fits into the color scheme.

Macau WR : NR – 8th Place – White and Red. Minnesota Wild template on both.

Malaysia WR : NR – 4th Place – White and Blue

Mongolia WR: 45th – 6th Place – White and Powder Blue

Singapore WR : NR – 9th Place – White/Black. I literally have no idea what is going on with the sweater/uniform here. I am at a loss for words.

Thailand WR: NR – 3rd Place – White and Black. Reminds of the German team template. There is a Thai flag on the right shoulder.

United Arab Emirates WR : NR – 2nd Place – Red and White

Well, hello. I am working on many things right now, but I have noticed the IIHF is doing a great job covering the many different levels of the World Championships from III to I. Look out in the coming weeks for a breakdown of each tournament.

Check out my new blog Forgotten Goaltender. I have always loved the goalie position and now my new blog will chronicle the men behind the mask that may have had one or two outstanding seasons, but then faded away into obscurity. If you have any suggestions for goalies to cover, leave me a comment.

What did you do this weekend? Well, I had a front row seat to the NCAA Men’s Ice Hockey Northeast Regional in Worcester. I saw Alaska play BC and Yale play North Dakota on Saturday. And then saw a wild one Sunday with BC beating Yale 9-7 to advance to the Frozen Four in Detroit. Exciting enjoyable game right? Not so for me. I was writing goal descriptions for the games and ended up writing 16 for the Sunday game. 16! The most goals scored in a regional game since the tournament was laid out with 16 teams in 4 regions. Just my luck. Any way, I am rooting for RIT in the Frozen Four. Make Atlantic Hockey proud!

Wowza, I have been falling behind here. Real life gets in the way all the time. But I wanted to share with you one of the best sweater moments this year…. the New Jersey Devils broke out the retro sweaters for St. Patrick’s Day (an aside: I hate when people call is St. Paddy’s Day. The man’s name was Patrick and he was not some drunkard named Paddy. So use his real name for the sake of Ireland!) Any who, no one calls this guy “Paddy,” but in true Czech style there is no “c” in Patrik. This may be my favorite photo of the evening. I am afraid Zubrus is going to eat Bryce, but just look at the sweaters, they are beautiful. Finally Marty went all out with a retro mask and red sticks. If you look closely you can see he has #29 on the backplate of his mask, the original number he wore when he broke into the NHL. Check out icethetics.info for some more action shots.
